Yesterday marked the exciting first step in the transformation of our Mental Health and Addictions (MHA) Unit at Joseph Brant Hospital. Ontario’s Deputy Premier & Minister of Health Sylvia Jones, Associate Minister of Mental Health & Addictions Vijay Thanigasalam, Burlington MPP Natalie Pierre, and Oakville North–Burlington MPP Effie Triantafilopoulos joined leaders from the hospital and the Foundation, board members, and donors for a tour and a groundbreaking ceremony to launch this major redevelopment.
This renewal of our Inpatient Unit will include:
✅ More beds, including a new 6-bed psychiatric intensive care space
✅ Private rooms with ensuite washrooms
✅ Specialized therapeutic areas
✅ A secure outdoor courtyard overlooking Lake Ontario
The Joseph Brant Hospital Foundation is playing a vital role in bringing this vision to life through its For All Minds fundraising campaign, which aims to raise $20 million in support of the redevelopment. Thanks to the incredible generosity of donors—led by a transformative $5 million gift from Michael and Laura Paletta—the campaign has already surpassed the halfway mark. This remarkable community-driven effort will ensure that everyone in our region has access to the highest standard of mental health and addictions care, in a space designed for healing, dignity, and hope.
The second phase of the initiative will focus on the redevelopment of the Outpatient MHA Unit and the creation of a new Child and Youth Mental Health Day Hospital, expanding program space to support the specialized needs of these vulnerable patients. The full enhancement of JBH’s MHA facilities is expected to be completed between 2027 and 2028.
With generous support from the Government of Ontario and our community, we’re building a modern, compassionate environment for patients and families across the Halton Region.
