Mental Health & Addictions Project receives approval

On November 25th, Premier Doug Ford was at Joseph Brant Hospital (JBH) to announce the Province’s investment in the new Michael and Laura Paletta Mental Health and Addictions Unit. This redeveloped and expanded space will support our team in providing timely and high-quality mental health and addictions care for Burlington and our surrounding communities.

The new unit will make it faster and easier for people in the Burlington region to connect to high-quality, comprehensive mental health and addiction support services closer to home. The unit will include:

  • A new adult outpatient space better suited to improve clinical flow and patient care;
  • Improved adult psychiatric intensive care space allowing for better patient-centred care and safety;
  • Interdisciplinary teams of nurses, physicians, social workers, psychiatrists and recreational therapists to support complex patient care needs and provide crisis intervention, psychiatric assessment, treatment and stabilization;
  • Enhanced child and youth programming including a new Child and Youth Mental Health Day Hospital.

A construction schedule will be confirmed once planning is complete and the project is tendered and awarded, with an early works project slated to begin in Spring 2025.
