Joseph Brant Hospital Foundation (JBHF) believes in transparency and accountability. The Foundation is committed to protecting the privacy of its stakeholders. The Joseph Brant Hospital Foundation works closely with the Chief Privacy Officer of Joseph Brant Hospital ensuring the consistent application of privacy legislation, policies and Principles.
Principle 1 – Accountability of Personal Information
"Personal Information" is any information that can be used to distinguish, identify or contact a specific individual. This information includes whether an individual has donated to JBHF, how much has been donated and an individual's private contact information. Business and personal information that is publicly available information (names, addresses, telephone numbers, etc.) that are publically published are not considered personal information.
Principle 2 – Safeguards for Personal Information
Personal information will be protected by security safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information, thus ensuring that is not accessed or shared more widely than is necessary to achieve the purpose for which it was gathered. The methods of protection include:
-physical measures, for example, locked filing cabinets and restricted access to offices;
-organizational measures, for example, confidentiality agreements and limiting access on a “need -to -know basis; and
-disposal or destruction of personal information, to prevent unauthorized parties from gaining access;
-technical measures, for example, the use of passwords, encryption, and access controls.
-reputable third party vendors for services that would not be practical or cost-effective for the Foundation to perform itself sign and adhere to the Foundation’s confidentiality agreement ensuring every precaution to protect the personal information in its possession and to destroy it upon completion.
The JBH Foundation ensures its employees are aware of the importance of maintaining the confidentiality of personal information and are required to sign the JBH Foundation’s Confidentiality agreement.
Principle 3 - Recognizing our donors.
Annually the Joseph Brant Hospital Foundation publishes a donor list (print/electronically). All donor requests for donor anonymity will be honoured.
Principle 4 - Collection, use and disclosure of personal information
When JBHF collects personal information directly from individuals, it is for the purposes for which personal information is collected at or before the time of collection by fair and lawful means. These purposes include: fundraising, the administration the donations, etc. Your permission may be expressed orally, in writing, or may be implied, or electronically, etc.
The Joseph Brant Hospital Foundation does not trade, rent or sell the names of our valued stakeholders. Personal information will not be used or disclosed for purposes other than those for which it was collected, except with the consent of the individual or as required by law.
The Joseph Brant Hospital Foundation's web site contains online forms that allow a visitor to make donations and or engage with the Foundation. Personal and or credit card information provided on these forms is used only to process these donations/engagement purposes. Online donations to the Foundation may be processed through a third party.

Principle 5 - Access your Personal Information.
Upon request, an individual will be informed of the existence, use and disclosure of his/her personal information. The individual may amend the accuracy and completeness of the information and request it to be updated/modified as appropriate.
Principle 6 - Report to the Board - Donor Complaints/Feedback
Annually the Foundation will inform and review with its Board of Directors; the number and types of complaints received, as well as review all policies and legislation relating to the Foundation’s Privacy Practices. Foundation Complaints Policy
Principle 7 – Communication Preferences
The Foundation respects stakeholders communication preferences and takes measures to ensure that preferences related to contact from the Foundation (direct mail, electronic communications, phone, etc.) are upheld. We are committed to ensuring transparency and accountability in our operations and these types of donor requests will be respected and acted on promptly.
